An ability to accept our present condition comes with a requirement to remove a creative part of our selves. The loss of our ability to create our conditions.
One of the most pernicious and harming choruses we repeat lately: “it is what it is.” This is an utterance of failure. A repeated failure to grasp what it is. We fail to see, to feel, to understand, to imagine. It is more than that.
We accept mistreatment, a lack of justice, corrupt institutions, that someone should go hungry, war. We think of things as inevitable because we lack the vision for an alternative. So many of the problems in our present moment are caused by a failure of imagination.
